Court in Nairobi allows police to hold 3 Chinese nationals for 5 days pending investigations after wildlife trophies, contraband goods and dog meat were found in their house in Kilimani.

A Milimani court has ordered three Chinese and a Kenyan who were arrested on Tuesday for being in possession of game trophies namely leopard skin, ivory pieces, rhino horn and a live tortoise to be detained for five days pending probe completion.

The Prosecution Wednesday had requested for 10 days claiming that the accused could be part of a poaching syndicate a claim that was denied by the defense counsel led by Asa Nyakundi.

Magistrate Caroline Nzibe ordered the suspects be detained at Kilimani police station and be arraigned in court on 14th January 2019.

Three Chinese nationals-Xing Wei, Zhang Jie, Shang Li and a Kenyan-David Maseno Oseko were arrested in Kilimani area.


Also netted during the raid were cigarettes worth more than Sh2 million shillings and alcoholic drinks.

The four were arrested after neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from the residence.

The raid was carried out by a multi-agency team drawn from detectives, officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Kenya Revenue of Authority.
