Marijuana tea is an alternative way to consume marijuana that does not involve smoking. It is easy to prepare at home, using ingredients like tea, milk, and honey.

Tea also provides a different therapeutic experience than smoking. Since the active ingredients are absorbed through the digestive tract, the effects are delayed and tend to be longer-lasting. The effects of marijuana tea are felt 30-90 minutes after ingestion and can last 4-8 hours long.

When brewing marijuana tea, a fat or oil must be added in order to extract the THC. You can also make a non-psychoactive version of marijuana tea that will not get you high. Here is a step-by-step guide for three of the best marijuana tea recipes.

Simple Marijuana Tea Recipe

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 gram of ground cannabis
  • 1 liter of boiling water (4 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter or coconut oil

Equipment

  • Pan with a lid
  • Tea strainer or sieve
  • Container

Step 1: Add 1 liter of water to pan and bring to a boil. Add 1 tbsp of butter or oil and let dissolve.

Step 2: Add cannabis, either directly into the water or using the tea strainer.

Step 3: Let the tea simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Remove the cannabis by taking out the tea strainer or by straining the tea through a sieve.

Step 5: Pour the tea into a cup and enjoy.

Marijuana Tea Recipe: Using Cannabutter

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 tea bag
  • 1 teaspoon of cannabutter
  • 1 cup of boiling water

Equipment

  • Kettle or pot
  • Tea cup

Step 1: Add the 1 teaspoon of cannabutter and tea bag to the cup.

Step 2: Boil the water and pour it into the cup.

Step 3: Let the cannabutter fully dissolve.

Step 4: Remove the tea bag, add milk (optional), and consume.

Marijuana Tea Recipe: Non-Psychoactive

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Note: Since this recipe doesn’t contain any fat, the THC can’t dissolve into the tea, meaning it won’t get you high. You will, however, get the benefits of THCA.

Ingredients

  • 1 tea bag
  • 1/2 gram of cannabis
  • 1 cup of boiling water

Equipment

  • Kettle or pot
  • Metal tea ball or empty tea sachet
  • Grinder
  • Mug or tea cup

Step 1: Grind cannabis thoroughly.

Step 2: Mix the contents of the tea bag with the ground cannabis and place in the tea ball or sachet.

Step 3: Boil the water using a stove, kettle or microwave. Pour the water into the mug.

Step 4: Steep tea for 5-10 minutes to desired strength and flavor.

Step 5: Add honey or sugar to taste (optional).

Additional Tips

  • If you want to prepare another volume of tea, use the same ratio of cannabis to water (e.g. 0.25 grams in 0.25 L of water).
  • Marijuana tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It can be consumed cold or may be reheated before consumption.
  • One cup of tea is the recommended dose for first-time users, although half a cup is safer. The dose can be increased gradually if stronger effects are desired.
  • Marijuana tea may have an odd taste which can be improved by adding sugar, honey, mint, or other flavorings.
